At what age did you know you were an artist?
Since I can remember I always liked to draw, I have always liked the creative aspect of things; however, I never took it very seriously until I came to NY and started taking art classes in 2001.
What was the first work of art you created?
I remember my mother being very proud of me about a mini watercolor I did on a wood veneer sample, it was about 2 x 3 inches.
What is one of your favorite past exhibitions?
In 2003, I saw Leonardo da Vinci, Master Draftsman at the Met and Matthew Barney at the Guggenheim, the same day. Amazing contrast but at the same time very similar; both doing things that were not common or “normal” at their respective times.
Who/what is your biggest influence or inspiration right now?
My faith and Street Art are my biggest inspirations at the moment.
What is the first thing that comes to mind after an opening?
I can finally have time to just look and enjoy my work. However, soon after I start thinking what is next; either continuing the same body of work or change medium and start a new series.
Why do you work in this particular medium?
Every time I start a new body of work I try to use a different medium, it gives me energy and inspiration. Mediums are to me like languages and by using them I feel I am creating a new “Culture”.
Do you collect anything?
Ideas, images and any kind of interesting materials.
